Guitar / Bass

We recommend waiting until your child turns 7 years old to begin guitar lessons.

Playing such an instrument requires a fair amount of dexterity and strength to keep the pressure on the strings. Children under the age of 7 generally have small hands, making these music lessons difficult and uncomfortable.

For bass guitar, we recommend waiting until your child is 10 years or older as this four-string requires a lot more pressure from the fingers.

Piano / Keyboard

At Flemington Guitar Shop, 5 years old is the youngest age we offer private music instruction to. It’s during this age that children begin to develop longer attention spans gaining the ability to retain more information with ease.

Drums

The right age for drum lessons varies greatly as it generally depends on the actual size of the child. They have to be tall enough to comfortably reach both the pedals and the cymbals. On average, the age of our youngest drum students is 8 years old for private music instruction .

Vocal Technique - Vocal Lessons

Based on our experience, Flemington Guitar Shop recommends starting private music instruction for vocal lessons at the age of 10 years or older. Due to the physical nature of voice lessons (proper breathing techniques, vocal chord development, and lung capacity), the younger body is usually not ready for the demanding rigors of vocal technique.

Children younger than 10 years can begin vocal music lessons, though we suggest dividing the lesson into two fifteen-minute sessions. With this arrangement, we devote fifteen minutes to voice lessons and fifteen to piano training.

MEET THE TEACHERS

Jon Loree

Jon is a driving force at Flemington Guitar Shop as well as touring with the internationally known band Tantric. Jon has a passion for music and drums that just pours from his soul. He is one of our most popular instructors and again has a love for instructing and passing on knowledge that is not seen very often. Jon is also very trained with our special needs students as well and a huge part of our state program for music lessons. private music instruction or online music lessons with Jon is available.

Anthony Gemignani

Anthony has toured and played with many top musicians.  Currently he is playing bass and touring internationally with Janet Gardner (Vixen).  He has also shared the stage with artists like Billy Idol, Belinda Carlisle (GoGo’s), Winger, Great White, Enuffs z Nuff, LA guns, Quiet, Riot, Trixter, Mr. Big, C&C Music Factory, Honeymoon Suite, Firehouse, Howard Jones, Sheena Easton, Tesla, Loverboy, Cheap Trick, Chic and many more.

Giving back and helping artists find their way in the music field is so fulfilling to Anthony and is a huge part of why he does what he does.  Whether it is to learn a couple songs to play for family and friends or to follow a dream to be the next big artist or band, Anthony and the Flemington staff are here to help guide you to whatever level you are striving to achieve in your music lessons.

Kelly McCarthy

Kelly is a very talented and inspiring young artist that I was fortunate enough to meet through a referral many years ago. Kelly worked onsite at Flemington formerly known as (Allstar Music Empire) for many years and now she is in NYC doing online music lessons for us still. Kelly has an amazing way of bonding with her students, and they have never had anything but praise to share about her methods of teaching as well as her as a person.

The bottom line is music is supposed to be enjoyable and the music lessons should be as well. We pride ourselves on reaching our students on a personal level to enhance the “trust factor” between teacher & student. This has proven to be a great method to get better results and progress out of the students.

We as instructors want to have fun in these lessons as well as progress, interest and effort does that for us! If we don’t see the students having fun and progressing, we will switch the students to another instructor to see if that is a better match. Not everyone clicks and that is just fact. We want our students to get enjoyment out of the lessons.

Music is a journey of joy, and we believe learning should be just as exciting. At Flemington Guitar Shop, we build genuine connections with each student, creating a foundation of trust that leads to remarkable progress and achievement.

Our approach is refreshingly simple: we meet students where they are. Whether your passion lies in rock, blues, jazz, or beyond, we shape our music lessons around YOUR musical interests while teaching proper techniques and fundamentals. (Sorry parents, forcing classical music on a budding rock star rarely works – trust us on this one!).

What Sets Us Apart: • private music instruction tailored to each student's interests • Expert instructors who are both educators and professional musicians • Flexible teaching methods that adapt to different learning styles • Regular, honest feedback about student progress • A commitment to making music education enjoyable and effective. Your success is our priority.

We're invested in your musical journey. If we notice a student isn't thriving with their current instructor, we'll recommend a change to ensure the best possible learning experience. Our goal isn't just to teach – it's to inspire a lifelong love of music.

Think of us as your musical guides, bringing the same expertise to music education that any professional brings to their craft. We celebrate every achievement, address every challenge, and maintain open communication with students and parents alike.

The Flemington Difference

We pride ourselves on honesty and transparency. When your child hits a milestone, you'll hear our excitement. If they're facing challenges, we'll work together to overcome them. Because at Flemington Guitar Shop, we're not just teaching music – we're building confident, passionate musicians who love what they do.

Ready to start your musical journey? Let's make something amazing together."
